Our story

The Journey Behind the Knowledge Grid Our Founder Story

After more than 15 years building one of the leading MSSP and MDR companies in the industry, we ran into the same wall — repeatedly.

Every time we tried to apply machine learning and AI to threat detection, the data fought back. Raw security telemetry — logs, events, sensor streams — required massive transformation before it was usable for AI. We evaluated every tool and third-party solution we could find. The answer was always the same: too complex, too manual, too expensive, and ultimately too broken to rely on in production.

We weren't failing at AI. We were failing at transforming the data infrastructure underneath it.

After our successful exit from the MDR company, we did something deliberate: we reassembled our original data science team and went back to the problem directly. No shortcuts, no wrappers on existing platforms. Built on 15+ years of R&D, we developed a fundamentally new data architecture — the Temporal Data Grid, a patented engine that transforms high-velocity security telemetry into an AI-ready state at the moment of ingest. Its output is contextually enriched through our Cognitive Workbench and optimized specifically for AI reasoning, anomaly detection, and SOC automation.

 

The result is the Cognitive Data Layer — a new category of AI infrastructure that solves the problem legacy data stacks were never designed to address.

Most organizations today are moving fast to embrace AI in their security operations. But the vast majority are still running on data infrastructure built for storage, search, and human review — not for LLM reasoning, agentic AI workflows, or AI-led threat detection at scale. Their telemetry has been organized — normalized, indexed, made searchable — but never transformed into a form a machine can reason over. Feeding that data straight into an AI model doesn't work: AI was never built to natively make sense of it, and the results show.

That is why we founded Knowledge Grid: to deliver the Cognitive Data Layer — the AI-native data foundation that makes cybersecurity AI actually work.

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Peter Bybee is a technology entrepreneur and business leader with deep experience in cybersecurity, managed services, data-driven platforms, and company growth strategy. Over the course of his career, he has helped build and lead advanced security and technology businesses, with a focus on solving complex operational and data challenges in real-world environments.

 

Peter’s background spans executive leadership, commercialization, platform strategy, and the development of innovative solutions for modern cybersecurity and data-intensive use cases.

Joel Holland

Chief Technology Officer

Joel Holland is the Chief Technology Officer of Knowledge Grid, where he leads the company’s technology strategy, platform architecture, and product innovation. He is a seasoned technology executive with deep experience in cybersecurity, product development, operations, and security platform engineering.

 

Over the course of his career, Joel has helped lead and scale complex security and technology organizations, with leadership roles spanning CTO, VP of Operations, and CISO functions. His background includes building and enhancing security solutions, guiding product development, and aligning technical execution with real-world operational demands.

Arek Wojna

Director of Data Science

Arkadiusz “Arek” Wojna is a senior research leader and data scientist with deep expertise in machine learning, rough set theory, data mining, and intelligent systems. Based in Warsaw, Poland, he has spent his career advancing methods for solving complex data problems through a blend of mathematical rigor, applied research, and practical system development.

 

His work has been focused on the development of intelligent systems for complex problem-solving.  His past publications include contributions in areas such as classifier construction, rough set methods, and machine learning libraries.
